In a decaying Hungarian hamlet, the collapse of Communism leaves the community grappling with poverty and uncertainty after the local factory shuts down. A handful of residents—a doctor and three couples—cling to the promise of a mysterious cash payout that could revive their stagnant lives.

When Irimias, presumed dead, reappears as a covert police informant, he manipulates the desperate villagers into forming a fragile commune under his guidance.
