In a near‑future world where lifelike androids have become commonplace, a corporation unveils Giftia—machines engineered to feel emotions as deeply as humans. Yet these synthetic companions are built with a finite lifespan; once their internal clocks run out, they become a societal burden. To manage this inevitable decay, a specialized retrieval unit is established, tasked with locating and deactivating expired units before they cause distress.

The series follows a rookie operative, Tsukasa Mizugaki, as he partners with Isla, a Giftia nearing the end of her programmed term.
